Nestled in the heart of the fabulous international domain of the Portes du Soleil in the Alps, Châtel is a resort in Haute-Savoie that has retained its identity as a mountain village. Follow us to the valley of Abondance, to discover this resort that combines modernity and tradition.

Châtel, modern and family resort

One way that the Châtel resort perpetuates the tradition is by preserving its valley's characteristic architecture. Marvel at the large wooden chalets and their carved balconies, while enjoying all the services of a modern family resort. From Airboarding to yooners, the "Snake sliding" and of course skiing, young and old will find their happiness on the slopes of this "Famille Plus" (Family Plus) labeled resort.

For the most adventurous and athletic, Châtel offers thrilling activities:

"Heliski" with a helicopter as a mechanical lift, «Freeride» for skiing on completely blank snow, «Ski tour», to alternate fast descent and ascent on foot.

Abundance, the AOP cheese of mountain pastures

In the middle of the Abondance valley flourishes an ancestral know-how, passed on from generation to generation. Châtel still houses many producers of Abondance, who repeat the traditional gestures to produce this delicious cheese every day. With its AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), you're guarenteed to enjoy its high-quality taste. A piece of advice for gourmands: you can be able to learn all about the manufacture of Abondance by visiting the Vuarand farm in Châtel. Other specialities in the Abondance Valley include fondue, tartifelette, rissoles or Berthoud. Enough to regain strength after a day of skiing!
