A must for all fashion fans, Paris Fashion Week is also a great excuse to explore some of the capital’s must-see spots. Here are nine of our favourite haunts to visit around all that designer decadence.
#1: Visit the Grand Palais during the Chanel show
Chanel has historically taken up residence at the Grand Palais during Paris Fashion Week. Whether dressed as a tropical beach, winter chalet or the rooftops of Paris, the building is always adorned with fabulous decorations to show off the creations modelled by Gigi Hadid and her peers. Unfortunately, only a handful of VIPs are allowed to attend the show – but don’t worry! A wander around this emblematic structure on the Champs-Élysées is the best way to meet some fashion stars, not to mention enjoy the excellent year-round exhibitions and the ice rink at Christmas time.
#2: Mix fashion and art at the Palais de Tokyo
A haven for daring artists and creators on the banks of the Seine, the Palais de Tokyo enjoys breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower, and its Art-Deco architecture and staircase provide a thousand different spots to capture your best looks during Paris Fashion Week. If you love contemporary art, this is the place to visit.
#3: Treat the Louvre esplanade like a catwalk
With its famous glass pyramid in the centre of the Napoleon courtyard, the Louvre Museum is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. And if you look closely, you can quickly spot influencers doing fashion shoots during Paris Fashion Week – all year round, in fact. They play on height by using the benches, depth using the distance towards the Tuileries, and capture some clever optical effects with the neighbouring colonnades and the Ming Pei pyramid. The Louvre is probably the most beautiful outdoor catwalk in Paris!
#4: Shop the latest designs on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré
This two-kilometre-long street links Rue Royale with Place des Ternes, passing through Place Vendôme – and it unites a glut of world-famous labels: Chloé, Dior, Isabel Marant, Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Yves-Saint-Laurent and Louis Vuitton. It’s the place to find the latest trendy pieces from these haute-couture houses, all of whom were launched at Paris Fashion Week. As a serious shoppers’ paradise, it can’t be beaten.
#5: Get high on the Buren Columns
The contemporary Colonnes de Buren, lined up in the courtyard of the Palais Royal a stone’s throw from the Comédie Française, are a major draw photographs fashion during Paris Fashion Week. Standing or sitting on one of the columns or strolling under the historic arches of the main courtyard, from behind or in front of the camera, there are endless possibilities for playing with the space. Give free rein to your imagination –and get to know Daniel Buren’s work, too.
#6: Explore the Rodin Museum gardens
The Hotel Biron, which has housed the Rodin Museum since the beginning of the 20th century, is elegant, aristocratic and romantic. And it’s probably these three ingredients that prompted Dior to choose it again as a showcase for its haute-couture show in January this year. When the sun’s out, getting lost in the immaculate gardens is a real pleasure. And why not strike a pose near the famous ‘Thinker’ by Rodin and spare a thought for the eco-responsible future of fashion?
#7: Have breakfast at Plaza Athénée
Ready for Palace life? Start the day at Plaza Athénée on the chic Avenue Montaigne, where fashion influencer Negin Mirsalehi stays during Paris Fashion Week. Her favourite time here is breakfast – it has all the ingredients for the perfect Instagram, before or after a show.
#8: Treat yourself to a stylish dinner at Lapérouse
Skimming the front rows of Paris Fashion Week shows is no easy task! After a day searching out the best places to be photographed, dinner is well deserved. With Jean-Pierre Vigato and Christophe Michalak running the kitchen, the cosy intimacy of the retro, bohemian Lapérouse appeals to models every year. Vogue magazine often pictures the likes of Winnie Harlow, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk and Lily Rose Depp dining here. Enough said – it’s the perfect setting for the fashion addict that you are. And for your Instagram account!
#9: Have a last drink in the Jardins du Faubourg
Numerous TV channels choose this enchanting green space to shoot interviews. Leave the hustle and bustle of Paris Fashion Week (and the Champs-Élysées) behind for a few hours, and enter the soothing Jardins du Faubourg. For one last drink or a final photo under the stars, you can spend your last moments of Paris Fashion Week here, dreaming of the next.
