Lez Market is a friendly, eclectic hotspot with artist workshops, antique sellers, boutiques, restaurants, and more. Open since 2016, Montpellier’s Lez Market near the Port-Marianne district has successfully converted an industrial wasteland into a unique outdoor space. This year, the market is expanding, with new shops and a food court. Here’s a guided tour.
An artsy-industrial outdoor café setting
An olive tree in the middle of the courtyard, strings of lights, and the pétanque strip give Lez Market an authentic Mediterranean village feel. The market’s old charm is counterbalanced by the industrial style of the old printing factory and warehouses along the shores of the Lez.
A new style of antique shop
Some twenty professionals sell their treasures here year-round, a mix of different furniture and decor, including objects from the forties to the sixties, Scandinavian and industrial furniture, and more. This vintage market is in full swing from 10am to 7pm everyday except Monday.
Eclectic, creative food options
There’s something for everyone at Lez Market, from food trucks with a specialized menu to four restaurants, including the must-try three-time Michelin-starred Pourcel brother’s bistronomique eatery. Bon appétit!
An artsy vibe
Wall paintings, collages, graffiti, installations… Some of street arts’ biggest names have designed the art at Lez Market, transforming it into an open-air gallery. Among these are Mr BMX, known for his cut-out bicycles that spring out from walls all around Montpellier. Artists Koralie and Supakitch have also left their cheerful, graphic mark on the market’s facades. Artists’ studios are setting up shop this year, and will open to the public by appointment.
Specialty shops
A concept store selling Mediterranean-inspired furniture and home decor objects, a passionate florist that designs simple bouquets and offers floral composition classes, a vintage-style hairdresser, a wine merchant, and soon, a boutique specialized in board sports—there’s indeed a fine selection of inspiring boutiques at Lez Market.
A wellness break
Need to unwind? The market, a relaxing venue in itself, offers two spaces dedicated to well being, including massage and Ashtanga and Hatha yoga. Classes and workshops are scheduled year-round.
A range of festive events
Clothing exchanges, designer markets, musical brunches, tasting events, concerts, and more… All year, Lez Market’s calendar is peppered with friendly, social events, where you can mingle with local producers, artists, and designers.
