At the heart of the Alps, the ski resort of Avoriaz is like no other: here, there are no cars. A day on skis or snowshoes; an evening of raclette, fondue or tartiflette shared around the table; followed by a night out on the dancefloor to honour the local clubbing culture. The new venues that have opened this winter bolster the already-established reputation of this Haute-Savoie resort.

La Cabane 1800: for lunch, dinner and live music

‘Reinventing food and parties at altitude’: that's the challenge of La Cabane 1800, a new restaurant that opened this winter at the heart of Avoriaz, in the resort’s central square. Led by chef Michaël Chenna, the kitchen is open for lunch and dinner, and from 7.30pm, the venue hosts concerts. With its cosy stripped wood decor, La Cabane 1800 should be on your list as a must-visit address in Avoriaz this winter. La Cabane 1800 in Avoriaz

Le Roc: to munch tapas and sip cocktails

Located at Avoriaz’s bowling alley, this new friendly lounge bar offers tapas to nibble and original cocktails to enjoy. The LoungeRoc bar hosts shows (including pole dancing, one man shows and magic) and evenings with DJ sets. On the menu are carpaccio of scallops with citrus, vegetable tempuras and salmon gravadlax. Don’t miss the homemade cocktails: where else can you drink a strawberry and basil mojito in Avoriaz?

La Folie Douce: for dancing at the foot of the slopes

It’s a name that’s resonated around the French Alps since the 80s: Val d’Isère opened the first Folie Douce restaurant in 1981. Its manager, Luc Reversade, conceived open-air shows on the terrace – and it became a great success. For afternoon clubbing on the slopes, this is the recipe! Having since opened in Alpe d’Huez, Megève, Méribel, Val Thorens and even Deauville, La Folie Douce has added Avoriaz to its collection this year. The new venue boasts two restaurants on the slopes: a buffet, La Petite Cuisine, and the more elegant La Fruitière. Every afternoon, clubbing, shows and performances here have all generations up on their feet. La Folie Douce in Avoriaz
