In the Mediterranean’s most famous village, some say simply having a straw hat and a set of bocce balls (or boules in French) is enough to make you a local, while others swear that extravagance is the way of life. In the end, it’s Brigitte Bardot’s 70s hippy-chic style that everyone agrees is truly tropézienne. Here’s what you’ll need to pull off Saint-Tropez’s vintage attitude.

1. Tropézienne Sandals

Ankle straps, double soles sewn with linen thread—these sandals are available in all colors, in thong or gladiator style, though purists will opt for the originals in neutral leather. It’s thanks to Rondini and K.Jacques, the two Saint-Tropez houses that developed this style in 1927 and 1933 respectively, making feet pretty all around the world. Inès de la Fressange is a big fan!

2. A Tunic and a Bikini

Brought into this world by Brigitte Bardot in the 1956 movie And God Created Woman, filmed in Saint-Tropez, the two-piece mini has become a worldwide sensation. Kiwi, a Saint-Tropez brand established in 1985, has them available in all shapes and shades, from the BB-inspired gingham demi-cup to more modern, ethnic prints. These look fabulous with the brand’s bohemian tunics. Kiwi Saint Tropez

3. A Table at Sénéquier

It’s an institution. This famous pastry shop at the port of Saint-Tropez was established in 1887, and has since become the place to see and be seen, just in front of the moorings that welcome fancy yachts today. Make your way to the catering section at the back of the café to stock up on nougat, one of the house specialties. Sénéquier, Quai Jean Jaurès, Saint-Tropez. Senequier.com

4. Linen Cushions and Tablecloths

For something to personalize your summer home, prolong that holiday feeling or give as a gift upon your return, make your way to one of Marinette’s specialty shops (home décor, furniture, linens, beachwear…) located throughout the village of Saint-Tropez. Whether you prefer monochrome or colorful linens, pretty printed cottons, a refined look, or a seashell theme, Marinette has been selling the best in Tropezien textiles since 1963. 5. A Seasonal Fruit Ice Cream

Barbarac has, without a doubt, the most Instagrammed ice creams on the Côte d'Azur. Here, they’ve been making artisanal ice creams and sorbets since 1986. Grab a cone of one of their ultra-refreshing summer favorites, like watermelon or cantaloupe, and then go for a stroll along the port. Divine! Barbarac Saint-Tropez

6. An extra-wide brimmed Straw Hat

Choose the one that suits you best at L’Aubier, open for business in the Saint-Tropez heights for over 18 years. Here, they have accessories and home decor tailor made in the village’s hippy-chic style. We also love their ethnic-print tunics, wicker bags, and those pastel ceramic cicadas that are so stylishly Provençal. L'Aubier, 36 rue de la Citadelle, Saint-Tropez.

7. A Tropézienne Cake

Savor a sublime tarte tropézienne at Micka’s (he invented the recipe in 1955). The cake is part-brioche and part-génoise, with a golden sugar-sprinkled crust stuffed with smooth, light pastry cream. Indulge while people-watching from the café’s terrace at Place des Lices, or get it to go, in mini portions or a full cake to share. Salma Hayek Pinault loves these...
