Do you want to have a great time with your family in the Pyrenean mountains? It's also possible in summer! Go down the ski slopes on a sled or mountain bike, sleep with wolves or marmots, climb the summits in a small train or hike with donkeys... We take you to test 6 activities for young and old.

Going downhill on a sled when there's no snow? It's possible even in summer. The Mountain Luge of the Hautacam leisure park welcomes young and old from 3 years old all year long for sensational rides, between accelerations and steep turns. For those over 10 years old (and over 1.40m tall), you can combine this with descents on board strange machines: the Deval'Kart, with 4 driving wheels, and the Sherpa, halfway between a mountain bike and a scooter. And to vary the pleasures, you can also go on the paths of the transhumance with Théo the shepherd for a day of meetings and discovery of pastoralism.

With the brand new ecolodge Le Refuge opened by the Pyrenees animal park to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2019, you can now spend 24 hours with the marmots! From his bed, you can see the evolution of large deer, ibex and prairie dogs. And to get to know the emblematic animal of this 14-hectare park better, young and old can now become carers for a day. On the program: 3 hours of visit with a caretaker, the maintenance of the enclosures and the feeding of the marmots.

Pedaling in the Louron Valley

Fans of cycling, it's in the Louron valley that you have to get in the saddle! On the menu this summer: the first free access mountain bikes, electrically assisted mountain or road bikes, a mountain bike course on bridges suspended in the trees at a height of 4 or 5 meters and a second Pumptrack (closed loop sports course) in Peyragudes. Between scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, BMX, mountain bikes and draisienne (bike without pedals for 2/4 years old) all the family can pedal at their own pace. And for those who would like to revise before setting off on the trails with their tribe, the Bike in Louron mountain biking school is in charge of training children from 4 years old.

Relive the epic of a unique observatory in the world perched at 2877 meters above sea level? This is what the Pic du Midi is offering this summer with a new augmented reality tour. With the HistoPad, you can follow in the footsteps of an extraordinary scientific and human adventure: it took two years from 1907 to 1908 to transport the materials necessary for its construction by mule and man... And to discover the secrets of astronomy, the dome of the Observatory is now open during the day: you can observe the sun through a new generation telescope and learn about the mysteries of the sky and the infinitely large.

Climb aboard a century-old train

If you want to go up in altitude without getting tired, take the Artouste little train, the highest in Europe! At nearly 2000 meters above the plain, you can climb aboard this soon to be centennial but still lively train for a trip in the mountains. It covers the 10 kilometers of the journey in 50 minutes... It is to say if we have time to contemplate the panorama on the valley of Sousseou and even to observe in the passage some marmots or the herds of sheep in the summer pasture. At the arrival, a path leads in 15 minutes to the lake of Artouste, of a sparkling blue, obligatory stop on image!

Donkey rides in the Val d'Azun

They are called Pollux, Pâquerette or Lami... Azun's donkeys are the perfect companions for a walk with children: from 3 years old, there is no need to strain their little legs, they can perch on their backs in complete peace. To go for a walk, you just need to rent a donkey (with a map and detailed itinerary) for a few hours or the whole day. Or try the adventure for 2 or 3 days with nights in a gite or tent. The only condition is to follow a one-hour training course to learn how to take care of the donkey, how to drive it and to get to know it better, each one has its own character!
