Kylian Mbappé - Paris
Considered as one of the world's best players at just 19, Kylian Mbappé is nicknamed “the arrow” for his speed. He is also called “37” since he was timed running at 37 kph (23 mph) during the game against Argentina, in which he scored two goals. He was born in Paris in 1998. After spending time in Monaco, he returned last year to his hometown, and evolves at present as attacking player in Paris Saint-Germain.
Antoine Griezmann - Burgundy
Though he lived in Spain for 10 years, where he is one of the Atletico Madrid figures, Antoine Griezmann ("Grizi" or "Grizou"), was born on March 21, 1991 in Mâcon, Burgundy. He began his career there, before drawing attention of the Spanish championship. Since 2014, the year they were selected for the World Cup in Brazil, he has played for the French national team.
Raphaël Varane - Hauts-de-France
The French team’s central defender scored the opening goal during the World Cup’s quarter-finals against Uruguay, contributing to France's advancement to the semi-finals. Born in Lille on April 25, 1993, he went through training in the North of France and began his professional career with the RC Lens at only 17. Courted the following year by the biggest clubs, he finally decided to go with Real Madrid. He was just 20 during his first appearance with the French national team in 2013, and distinguished himself greatly during the World Cup in 2014.
Olivier Giroud - the Alps
The French attacking player grew up at the foot of the Alps, where he was born in Chambéry on September 30, 1986. Before going professional, he went through training with Grenoble Foot 38 and entered in the Rhône-Alpes selection, which won the national under-14 Cup. He has been part of the French National Team for 6 years, playing the European Championship in 2012 and 2016 and the World Cup in 2014 and 2018. Today, he plays for Chelsea in England.
Hugo Lloris - Côte d'Azur
The French team's goalkeeper and captain was born in Nice on December 26, 1986. He has been a part of the French National Team for 8 years, the longest running goalkeeper in France. From the age of 10, he entered in the OGC Nice club and continued in the Côte d'Azur club until he was 20. He then opted for the Olympique Lyonnais, then to Tottenham Hotspur in England, for which he's been goalkeeper since 2012
Benjamin Pavard - Hauts-de-France
Not really well-known before the beginning of the World Cup 2018, Benjamin Pavard made a splash during the game against Argentina with a stunning goal, propelling him to the media center stage. The defender comes from the North of France, born in Maubeuge in March, 1986. From an early age, he was spotted by OSC Lille. He played in the capital of Hauts-de-France until 2016 before joining his current club from Stuttgart, Germany.
Paul Pogba - Ile-de-France
Paul Pogba was born in Lagny-sur-Marne, about 20 kilometers from Paris, to Guinean parents. As a teenager, the midfielder was trained in clubs from the eastside of the Paris region before heading for Le Havre in Normandy, then Juventus of Turin, and ultimately to Manchester United. He was called for the first time to French National Team for the World Cup 2014.
Blaise Matuidi - Occitanie
The French midfielder was born on April 9, 1987, in Toulouse to Angolan parents. He left Occitania at the age of six for the Paris region, where he made his debut. He signed with Troyes in Champagne at 15, then with Saint-Etienne, the famous club of Greens, and then in Paris Saint-Germain. Blaise Matuidi now plays in Juventus Turin and has been a pillar of the French team since 2012.
