The spotlight is often on Paris, the City of Light. The French capital is brimming with treasures, but so is the surrounding region. Especially for the little ones! Whether you are just passing through the Île-de-France region or you are lucky enough to live here, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to activities to do with children of all ages. On the metro, RER or TER regional trains, set off to explore the main attractions of the Paris Region for a week.

Day 1: Disneyland, a day out in wonderland (35 km from Paris)

You’re dying to go, just admit it! Your children are the perfect excuse to spend the day at Disneyland Paris. You’ll need at least the entire day to visit Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios.

Disneyland Park: 5 enchanted lands and 40 rides for all ages. My absolute favourite ride is the train at the Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland.

Walt Disney Studios Park: 4 areas inspired by cinema, animation and television. We never get tired of the hair-raising experience plummeting 13 storeys in the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ™!

Why not stay the night in one of the park’s 7 themed hotels to make the magic last even longer?

RER A from Paris.

Day 2: Chevreuse Valley, a fantastic place to explore (36 km from Paris)

Vallée de Chevreuse, Saint-Forget, France

If you’re looking for something entertaining to do with children around Paris, head to Chevreuse Valley. This natural park nestled in between Versailles and Rambouillet is a great place to explore.

- Explore the forest along the Maréchaux trail
- Visit Dampierre-en-Yvelines and the château built by the same architect as Versailles.
- Janvry in the department of Essonne and the animal park (free admission).
- The stunning medieval village of Rochefort en Yvelines.

RER B from Paris.

Day 3: Bois de Boulogne and Jardin d’Acclimatation, a Parisian tradition (1 km from Paris)

- The Bois de Boulogne, is a favourite place for the locals on the west side of the capital city, and is a fantastic place to go for a walk, bike ride or boat trip.

- The Jardin d’Acclimatation is unmissable if you are in Paris with children. There are 42 attractions there in a magnificent setting, with parades, shows and so much more going on.

Metro lines 1(Porte Maillot), 2 (Porte Dauphine) and 10 (Porte d’Auteuil)

Day 4: Bois de Vincennes and Parc Floral, nature is just a few stops away (2 km from Paris)

Parc floral de Paris, Route de la Pyramide, Paris, France

Just a few metro stops away, you’ll find yourself in the forest, or the Bois de Vincennes to be exact. This green lung of the capital city is home to so many treasures including the château, four lakes with boat trips, sandboxes and so much more.

And you can take a stroll around a magical little land of flowers and plants at the Parc Floral, a stone’s throw from the château. For the children, there’s a puppet theatre, crazy golf and giant slides there all year round.

Metro lines 1 (Château de Vincennes) and 8 (Porte Dorée)

Day 5: Versailles, sheer magnificence and new discoveries (18 km from Paris)

Versailles you say? An unmissable place for children! When coming with children, choose just one or two places to visit because this estate is vast.

- The Palace: the Hall of Mirrors and the King’s Apartment
- Garden: Musical Fountains and Musical Gardens
- A leisurely stroll around the Hameau de la Reine

Day 6: Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, inspiration for Versailles (48 km from Paris)

This architectural masterpiece of the 17th century served as inspiration for Versailles. It was created by the expert hands of architect Louis Le Vau, decorator Charles Le Brun and gardener André Le Nôtre.

- The Château
- The French-style gardens

Children will enjoy the electric cars, tours in fancy dress and the entertaining visitor’s tour on the underground river.

Day 7: Saint-Denis, Kings of France and football champions (10 km from Paris)

Saint-Denis is often overlooked when planning a getaway around Paris with children. And wrongly so!

- The Basilica of Saint-Denis is the final resting place of the Kings of France and is home to 70 tombs.
- Just one metro stop away from the basilica, you can take a tour of the Stade de France as long as there isn’t a match or concert on. Go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the pitch, changing rooms, VIP boxes, etc.
